On Court vs Off Court

’m Chuck Wilson with an ESPN Radio Extra Point,

This has been a lousy week for college basketball off the court. The stories involving the programs at Fresno State, University of Georgia and St. Bonaventure have cast the game in a poor light. But the remedy is on the court where nothing can spoil the excitement of Championship Week. For all the problems inflicted on programs by coaches, administrators and others, the essence of the game is pure and untainted, rooted in the competitive spirit captured in conference tournaments around the country. So much is at stake for players who have dreamed of playing in the NCAA Tournament. You see the last-second shots that keep basketball miracles alive for some, while dashing the hopes of others. You see the camaraderie of players in their joy or despair. Every year, these championship games create unforgettable memories. We don’t know what the storylines will be, but they’ll be there. Today you can block out the worst of what the game has to offer and instead enjoy the best.
